Nepal marked the second World Meditation Day with a special event at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The event, held at the United Nations and entitled "Awakening the Mind: Pathways to Peace, Health, and Harmony of Living," was jointly organised by the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations and the Jeevan Vigyan Foundation.
Ramesh Prasad Nepal and LP Bhanu Sharma represented the Government of Nepal at this event. The two representatives conveyed that "Jeevan Vigyan," or "Science of Living," utilizes yoga and meditation to foster emotional wellness, inner peace, and conscious leadership. Practicing meditation helps develop inner peace and promotes harmony between oneself and the rest of the universe, particularly during challenging times.
The event took place on December 19, just ahead of the official World Meditation Day. It brought together international delegates, including UN Under Secretary General Atul Khare, Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the UN Lok Bahadur Thapa, and Jeevan Vigyan Foundation President Devi Guruma.
Nepal has been a key player in establishing World Meditation Day. Along with India, Sri Lanka, Andorra, and Mexico, the country helped finalize the UN resolution in December 2024. The event showed the United Nations that Nepal is determined to teach people across the globe the value of yoga, meditation, and Samadhi through its ancient tradition.
At the event, both Nepal and the Jeevan Vigyan Foundation members shared their own personal stories about meditating. The evidence shows that meditation reduces stress, achieves balance in emotional health, and creates mindful leadership.
Finally, all participants were encouraged to include meditation in their daily life practices for their own personal and collective growth. The successful response of the audience demonstrates Nepal is continuing to make an important contribution to the promotion of mindfulness and spirituality.
